Haaland completed the scoring 21 minutes from time, side-footing past Alphonse Areola after Rico Lewis flicked Matheus Nunes’ pass into his path.
West Ham improved after the interval, forcing Gianluigi Donnarumma into a sharp double save to deny Crysencio Summerville and Freddie Potts. Jarrod Bowen wasted two decent opportunities from either side of the penalty area but could not reduce the deficit.
The victory moved City above Arsenal at the EPL and summit, though they will be displaced if the Gunners win at Everton later on Saturday. West Ham will spend Christmas in 18th place.
