March 10, (THEWILL) – Manchester United took a step closer to the Europa League quarter-finals after securing a 4-1 victory over Real Betis at Old Trafford, on Thursday night.
The match featured quality goals from both teams, with Marcus Rashford giving United an early lead. Ayoze Perez, on loan from Leicester, scored Betis’ equaliser, but second-half goals from Antony, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst sealed the victory for United.
Rashford displayed proper composure as he sidestepped a defender before smashing the ball into the net for the opener. Betis responded with their first shot on target with a fine goal from Perez, controlling the ball on his chest before striking a sweet half-volley into the far bottom corner.
Antony’s go-ahead strike was even better than his previous goal against Barcelona, while Fernandes’ header from a corner put United further ahead. Weghorst secured the win for United with a poacher’s finish, sweeping in a loose ball after Scott McTominay’s shot was saved. United will take a three-goal aggregate into next week’s second leg in Spain.
United will now turn their attention to their upcoming EPL match against Southampton on Sunday, while Betis travel to Villarreal in La Liga on the same day.
