Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will speak to shareholders today as the search for a new manager nears its conclusion.
United’s three-quarter results are released to the New York Stock Exchange at 1200 BST, with Woodward hosting an investors’ conference call at 1300 BST.
He and Ryan Giggs have held talks with Louis van Gaal in the Netherlands.
BBC Sport understands Van Gaal has agreed to replace David Moyes, with Giggs offered the role of assistant.
Van Gaal will sign a three-year contract to take over as manager, with his work due to begin immediately after the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign is over.
Media reports suggested an announcement about him taking the role could be made prior to Woodward’s scheduled conference call on Thursday.
However, it is now thought early next week is more likely.
The 62-year-old used a designated rest day from preparations at the Dutch training camp in Hoenderloo on Wednesday to meet with Giggs and Woodward.
Giggs then returned to Manchester to watch United’s Under-21 side lose to Chelsea at Old Trafford.
It is not yet known whether Giggs will accept the role of assistant manager, or if the 40-year-old is to extend his playing career, having made his 962nd appearance against FA Cup finalists Hull City on 6 May.
Van Gaal is expected to be accompanied by two long-standing members of his backroom team, goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek and video analyst Max Reckers.
Having got the full 30-man provisional Dutch squad together for the first time, Van Gaal has a friendly against Ecuador in Amsterdam on Saturday to prepare for.
The Netherlands then have two weeks before their next game, against Ghana in Rotterdam on 31 May.
They are scheduled to meet up again on Tuesday, then fly to Portugal for a week long training camp.
