January 03, (THEWILL) – Chelsea face another defensive setback with Wesley Fofana ruled out for the remainder of the 2024/2025 season due to a significant hamstring injury.
Manager Enzo Maresca confirmed the development during Friday’s press conference, emphasising the substantial impact of losing the £70 million defender.
The French center-back, who transferred from Leicester City in 2022, continues to experience injury difficulties at Stamford Bridge.
His participation has been limited to 32 appearances since his arrival, reflecting ongoing fitness concerns that have marked his tenure at the London club.
“Unfortunately he could be out for the season,” Maresca stated.
He added, “He has a hamstring injury and unfortunately we are going to lose him for a while. I have said many times that I love Wes and of course not having him available is a huge loss for us.”
The defensive complications intensify for Chelsea with Benoit Badiashile sidelined until February.
However, positive developments emerge regarding Reece James and Romeo Lavia, who approach full fitness before the Crystal Palace fixture on Saturday.

He explained, “We do not like to lose games and drop points but it is not going to affect our journey because we all know and are aware that you are going to lose games.
“The important thing is to see how the team is improving.”
