January 27, (THEWILL) – Arsenal have reached an agreement in principle with Gabriel Martinelli over a new contract extension.
The Brazilian forward’s existing deal was set to expire in 2024, but the new contract will extend his stay at the club until the summer of 2027. The terms were agreed upon in December, but Martinelli has yet to sign the contract.
Martinelli’s development at Arsenal has been remarkable since signing in July 2020. In the two-and-a-half years since then, he has become an increasingly important player for manager Mikel Arteta and is currently enjoying his best season to date.
He has scored seven Premier League goals in 19 appearances so far in the 2022/2023 season, helping Arsenal top the league table at the halfway stage. This new contract will also see Martinelli’s pay increase, making him one of the best-paid players in the squad.
Arsenal is also in talks with Bukayo Saka and William Saliba for new contract extensions, but the negotiations are not as advanced as Martinelli’s. The club is optimistic about securing new deals with both players, whose contracts are also set to expire in 2024.
