BEVERLY HILLS, August 20, (THEWILL) – The controversial Commissioner of Police FCT, Mr. Joseph Mbu and 18 others Commissioners of Police have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG) by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

A statement by the Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations, PSC, Mr. Ferdinand Ekpe, Wednesday announced the appointments “with effect from August 20, 2014.”

The other new AIGs are: Umaru Manko, the Lagos State Police Commissioner; Ambrose Aisibor, Adebayo Ajileye, Joel Theophilus, Wilfred Obute, A. Abakasanga, Jubril Adeniji, Ibrahim Maishanu, Godfrey Okeke, Chintua Amajor-Onu, Felix Uyanna, Lawal Tanko, Usman Gwarry, Kalafite Adeyemi, Yahaya Ardo, Irimiya Yerima, Olufemi Adenaike and Patrick Dokumor.

The PSC said the promotions were necessary to fill the vacancies created by recent retirements and promotions in the Force and to re-invigorate and reposition Zonal and other Commands headed by AIGS, to help tackle the country’s current security challenges.

On Tuesday, the PSC approved the promotion of 8 officers to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). 6 of the officers were from the rank of AIG while two others were from the rank of Commissioner.
