October 08, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has revealed that the metering rate in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) climbed to 54.33 per cent as of June 2025, following the installation of 225,631 meters by electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in the second quarter of the year.
According to NERC’s second-quarter 2025 report released in Abuja, the figure represents a 20.55 per cent increase compared to the 187,161 meters installed in the first quarter.
“As of the end of June 2025, only 6,422,933 out of the total 11,821,194 active registered customers in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) were metered, translating to a metering rate of 54.33 per cent,” the commission stated.
A breakdown of the figures showed that 147,823 meters, representing 65.52 per cent of the total, were deployed under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) framework.
Another 5,315 were installed through the Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF), while 12,259 were rolled out under the Vendor-Financed framework.
On customer service, the commission reported that DisCos resolved 1,129 out of 2,474 cases brought before its Customer Complaints Unit during the quarter, reflecting a resolution rate of 45.63 per cent.
Across all DisCos, customers lodged a total of 227,267 complaints in the second quarter — a 10.67 per cent decline from the 254,404 complaints recorded in the first quarter of the year.
“As in previous quarters, metering, billing, and service interruptions remained the most common issues raised by customers,” the report added.
