October 22, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich will be without midfielder, Leon Goretzka, for the next few games after the German international sustained a broken hand during the side’s 3-1 win away at Mainz on Saturday.
Goretzka, who found the net in the victory, underwent surgery on Sunday morning, after fracturing a bone in his hand during the match.
The 28-year-old is now set to miss Bayern’s upcoming UEFA Champions League trip to Galatasaray on Tuesday, as well as their home game against SV Darmstadt on Saturday.
Goretzka’s absence comes at an unfortunate time for Bayern, with the club already dealing with several injury issues. Captain Manuel Neuer, Serge Gnabry, Noussair Mazraoui, Raphael Guerreiro and Dayot Upamecano are all currently sidelined.
Manager Thomas Tuchel recently voiced concerns about the lack of depth in his squad. He has been forced to utilise makeshift solutions, such as previously playing Goretzka and Mazraoui as centre-backs.
