Mourinho Files Lawsuit Against Galatasaray Over Derby Comments

Mourinho

March 01, (THEWILL) – Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho has commenced legal proceedings against Galatasaray football club, seeking damages of 1,907,000 Turkish lira (£52,223) for alleged violations of his personal rights, according to a statement from Fenerbahce.

The lawsuit follows tensions from the recent Istanbul derby which ended in a goalless draw. Galatasaray previously announced they would pursue criminal charges against Mourinho after his post-match comments, which included referring to the home side’s bench “jumping like monkeys” and criticising the potential involvement of Turkish referees.
The Turkish Football Federation has imposed a four-match ban on Mourinho for what they described as “derogatory and offensive statements” that cast doubt on Turkish football operations. This disciplinary action forms part of the growing feud between the two Istanbul giants.
Both parties are now seeking resolution through legal channels rather than limiting their confrontation to on-pitch competition.
