August 13, (THEWILL) — Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has assured that his administration will complete all ongoing projects, including those inherited, before leaving office in February 2028.
Diri gave the assurance on Wednesday during the 169th session of the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Yenagoa.
He listed major projects under execution to include the Sagbama–Ekeremor road, completed after being inherited from the previous administration, with work now progressing from Ekeremor to Agge; the Yenagoa–Oporoma–Ukubie road; and phase one of the Nembe–Brass road.
Others are the nine-storey civil service secretariat, the 25,000-capacity stadium, a 60MW gas turbine plant, and several other infrastructure projects initiated by his government.
The governor said contractors handling some of these projects were inherited and known to the public, stressing that funding will not be an obstacle to their completion.
Siri stated, “Our goal is to complete them before we leave office. Upon the completion of the Sagbama–Ekeremor road, travel time and insecurity will be drastically reduced.”
On the Bayelsa West senatorial road between Ekeremor and Agge, he said sand-filling was ongoing by the China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation, while the Bayelsa Central–Oporoma road and the Nembe–Brass road in the eastern senatorial district were nearing completion.
He added that the Federal Government, which took over the second phase of the Nembe–Brass road, had released 30 per cent of the contract sum.
Speaking on power, Diri said the new gas turbines procured by his administration would guarantee 24-hour electricity for Bayelsans by the end of the year, describing power as critical to industrialisation.
