January 11, (THEWILL) — In a decisive move to deepen transparency, improve financial accountability and accelerate its digital reform agenda, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has constituted a Project Verification and Payment Committee to verify completed projects and enable seamless electronic payments.
The decision followed a resolution reached at the 9th meeting of the 7th Governing Board of the Commission held on December 8, 2025, under the leadership of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Samuel Ogbuku.
The Board approved the constitution of the committee to verify all infrastructure, electrification, environmental, desilting and water supply projects executed by the Commission, with the aim of capturing them on the Directorate of Finance and Accounts’ digitised platform for payment purposes.
According to a press statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the move is in line with the Federal Government’s directive mandating all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to fully digitalise their operations and transition to a paperless system by December 31, 2025.
The statement explained that it became imperative for the NDDC to carry out a comprehensive verification of all completed projects to ensure accurate documentation and seamless integration into its electronic database for e-payments.
“The Project Verification and Payment Committee will undertake a comprehensive verification of all completed projects in the Niger Delta region from inception to January 2023, with a view to capturing them in the digitised database of the Directorate of Finance and Accounts for payment purposes”, the statement said.
Projects to be verified include infrastructural works, electrification projects, environmental remediation, desilting exercises and water supply schemes across the Niger Delta.
The committee is chaired by the Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Alabo Boma Iyaye. Other members include the Executive Director, Projects, Sir Victor Antai; the Director of Project Monitoring Service, Engr. Gbenga Omowanle; the Director of Finance and Administration, Mrs Kunemofa Asu; and the Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Lucky Ogbuji. The Director of Legal Services, Mr Victor Arenyeka, will serve as Secretary.
The development is widely seen as a significant milestone in the NDDC’s ongoing institutional reforms, aimed at strengthening governance, improving service delivery and restoring public confidence in the Commission’s operations across the Niger Delta region.
