BEVERLY HILLS, JULY 20, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has begun a fresh search for a technical adviser for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, after being snubbed by Frenchman Paul Le Guen, promising to name a technical adviser within seven days.
This was contained in a statement by Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, Chairman, Communique Drafting Committee, NFF, after a meeting of the federation’s executive committee on Wednesday.
“Executive Committee instructed the Technical and Development Sub –Committee to, within the next seven (7) days, recommend a candidate for the post of Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles,” the statement read.
“The Committee further resolved that any candidate that would be so recommended by the Technical and Development Sub-Committee must have accepted to be handed targets and must also be willing to live in Nigeria. In addition, such a candidate must agree to undergo other internal evaluation.
“Following the recommendation of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee, the Board approved the appointment of Mr. Salisu Yusuf as Chief Coach of the Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles and Head of the CHAN team.
“Mr. Imama Amakapabo will serve as Assistant Coach and Mr. Alloy Agu as Goalkeepers’ Trainer.
“Also approved was the recommendation for Mr. Bitrus Bewarang to become the new National Technical Director. He replaces the late Coach Shaibu Amodu. Board also approved the recommendation for Mr. Nduka Ugbade to return to the U17 National Team as Assistant Coach.
THEWILL recalls that the NFF initially short-listed three applicants for the Eagles’ job and settled Le Guen.
However, Le Guen backpedalled as he was not comfortable with some of the terms by NFF such as living in Nigeria and having the target of qualifying to the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Sam Allardyce, Sunderland manager, will be confirmed as England manager in the next 24 hours.
According to Skysports, Allardyce will be ratified as Roy Hodgson’s replacement at Thursday’s FA board meeting.
Sunderland were informed of the news Wednesday afternoon, and their search for a replacement is already underway.
FA chief executive Martin Glenn confirmed earlier on Wednesday that the 12-man FA board would be updated with details of the manager search at Thursday’s meeting.
Glenn, vice chairman David Gill and technical director Dan Ashworth, were given the job of recommending a new manager in the wake of Hodgson’s departure at the end of England’s Euro 2016 campaign.
