
January 03, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian football community prepares to celebrate Dr Steve Olarinoye’s 70th birthday on January 4, with distinguished leaders in football administration offering their congratulations.
The Nigeria Football Federation, President Ibrahim Gusau, commended Olarinoye’s significant contributions to Nigerian football development.
In his written message, Gusau emphasised Olarinoye’s professional approach during his tenure in the Pro-League department.
He said, “Your record of performance at the NFF remains sterling till this day, those who were around in that period continue to speak glowingly of your role Head of the Pro-League Department.”
The Nigeria Premier Football League Chairman, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, acknowledged Olarinoye’s instrumental role in establishing the foundation of the current premier league structure.
His message noted the celebrant’s dedication to maintaining high standards within the Nigerian football administration.
Olarinoye’s influence extends beyond league management, having served as the Administrative Secretary during Nigeria’s Olympic football triumph in Atlanta in 1996.
This achievement marked a significant milestone in African football history, establishing Nigeria as the first nation from the continent to obtain Olympic football gold.
The forthcoming celebration is scheduled to take place in Ilorin.
