May 2, (THEWILL)- An international NGO, Christoffel Blindenmission International (CBM), has trained and empowered 560 vulnerable persons in Borno State, on various livelihood skills to enable them to fend for themselves and revive their economy, from the rubbles of the Boko Haram insurgency.
The trainees were drawn from the state’s Gwoza, Konduga, Maiduguri and Jere LGAs.
The training was conducted in conjunction with Women in the New Nigeria (WINN), Youth Empowerment and The Borno State Primary Health Development Agency. The 560 beneficiaries include people living with disabilities.
The coordinator of CBM International, Mr Fwangshak Guar, said while distributing starter packs to the trainees in Maiduguri on Wednesday, that the training was on such vocational skills as tailoring bead-making, soap-making and pasta-making.
He noted that the project focused on improving the living conditions and access to inclusive aid for displaced persons and host communities across the four selected local government areas.
He explained that the distribution of 282 dignity kits across project locations has provided critical support to survivors of sexual gender-based violence as well as other vulnerable women and girls.
“Through vocational training programs in tailoring bead-making, soap-making, and pasta-making, a total of 560 individuals have been empowered, with plans for additional training cohorts in the pipeline.
“Having successfully completed the training, various startup kits ranging from sewing machines, pasta making machines, soap and making items have been distributed to the 560 women and girls that are graduating from the skills acquisition training”, he said.
Fwangshak said the persons living with disabilities across the four LGAs received medical and technical devices which include wheelchairs, tricycles, elbow crutches, zimmer frames and medicated glasses to improve their physical mobility functioning.
He noted that the project focused on improving the living conditions and access to inclusive aid for displaced persons and host communities across four local government areas of the state.
CBM Humanitarian Technical Specialist, David Sabo, expressed satisfaction with the stakeholders, especially the traditional rulers and religious leaders, during the implementation of the project in the four LGAs.
