April 22, (THEWILL) — Trading on the Nigerian equities market closed on a positive note on Wednesday, with key performance indicators recording notable gains amid renewed buying interest in select consumer and industrial stocks.

The market capitalisation of the Nigerian Exchange Limited opened the session at ₦140.523 trillion and appreciated to ₦141.384 trillion at the close of trading.

Similarly, the All-Share Index (ASI) advanced from 218,249.81 points to 219,586.20 points, reflecting sustained investor appetite for equities.

Market breadth closed in positive territory, with 31 gainers against 28 losers, signalling moderate bullish sentiment across the trading floor.

Top five gainers for the session

1. CAP gained 10.00 percent (N100.00 to N110.00).
2. TRANSEXPR advanced 10.00 percent (N7.20 to N7.92).
3. UACN rose 10.00 percent (N110.00 to N121.00).
4. VITAFOAM appreciated 10.00 percent (N130.00 to N143.00).
5. TRANSCOHOT increased 10.00 percent (N203.00 to N223.30).

On the flip side, losses were recorded in several equities.

Top five decliners

1. NEIMETH declined -10.00 percent (N10.00 to N9.00).
2. ABBEYBDS shed -9.85 percent (N6.60 to N5.95).
3. LIVINGTRUST dipped -8.94 percent (N3.69 to N3.36).
4. ABCTRANS lost -8.65 percent (N6.24 to N5.70).
5. HMCALL fell -6.23 percent (N3.85 to N3.61).

Meanwhile, several blue-chip counters including MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, Dangote Cement Plc, Custodian Investment Plc, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, and Golden Guinea Breweries Plc closed flat for the session.

Market analysts noted that the mid-week rally was largely supported by bargain hunting in consumer goods and industrial counters, as investors repositioned ahead of further corporate earnings releases.

Looking ahead, analysts expect mixed but cautiously optimistic trading, with selective accumulation likely to persist as investors monitor macroeconomic signals and company fundamentals for direction.
