SAN FRANCISCO, October 29, (THEWILL) – Following the recent withdrawal of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), accreditation of an Abuja-based Healthcare Facility, FIRST HOSPITAL & MATERNITY LIMITED, located at Karu, the scheme has officially enforced the de-accreditation of the healthcare facility.
A statement from the NHIS said the acting General Manager in charge of Standard and Quality Assurance, Dr Kabir Mustapha, who is also the head of enforcement in the scheme, led a team of the Enforcement Division to conduct the exercise on the premises of the hospital.
This followed petitions from some enrolees, alleging that the hospital was deep-rooted in manipulation of the drug list as approved by NHIS, which amounted to violation of enrolees’ rights.
“The decision was sequel to complaints about the facility, regarding the setting aside of NHIS-approved drug tariffs, thereby over-billing patients receiving care under the scheme. We can assure you that the NHIS has investigated and confirmed this to be true” he added. –
Dr Kabir warned Hospitals and other healthcare providers operating under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to desist from shabby treatment of, as well as discrimination against NHIS’ enrolees, besides fraudulent application of the drug list. He said infringement on the rights of enrolees remain unacceptable, emphasising the importance of satisfactory service delivery to all patients under the scheme.
He reiterated the Scheme’s commitment to qualitative healthcare delivery, calling on hospitals and other stakeholders to adhere to the contractual agreement they entered in to with NHIS, which hinged on “Easy access to qualitative healthcare services.
The Chief Matron of First Hospital & Maternity Limited, Mrs Uzoamaka Chibundu, who represented the Chief Medical Director/CEO, confirmed that the hospital management received the news of the de-accreditation recently.
