BEVERLY HILLS, July 23, (THEWILL) – The Peoples Democratic Party’s highest body, the National Executive Committee, NEC, has approved the fusion of the party with the Reformed All Progressives Party, R-APC, the breakaway faction of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC.

The body at its 80th meeting Monday also set up a committee on name change, one of the major conditions that members of the R-APC had given the party before their formal fusion can be done.

“The party has also constituted a committee on harmonization on the possibility of a change of name,” Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP spokesman told journalists after the meeting.

The PDP, which was in power at the center for 16 years until 2015, has struggled to shed the cloak of impunity and corruption that was its hallmark.

THEWILL can report that some leaders of the party have been pushing for a rebranding as a means of appealing to voters in future elections.
