BEVERLY HILLS, August 08, (THEWILL) -The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the state owned Oil Corporation Friday said it has shut its clinic in highbrow Victoria Island, Lagos after the facility admitted a patient that has manifested symptoms of the deadly Ebola disease currently ravaging West Africa.
NNPC’s Group General Manager, Public Affairs, Ohi Alegbe, in a statement said it was discovered that the patient visited the First Consultant Medical Centre, where Patrick Sawyer, the infected Liberian/American man that brought the virus to Lagos, was first treated.
The NNPC said that the pre-emptive step to close the clinic was taken after the case was duly reported to the Federal Ministry of Health as well as officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Health.
“In the meantime, all contacts with this case are being traced and adequate precautionary measures instituted to contain the possible spread of the disease.
“The medical team has assured that the patient is in stable condition,” the corporation said.
There are about 1800 cases of infected persons in West Africa and the death toll so far is around 1000, according to figures from the WHO.
