SAN FRANCISCO, August 19, (THEWILL) – Eight new Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIG) have been approved in the Police Force by the Police Service Commission (PSC), the agency that regulates the Force.
The new DIGs were drawn from the ranks of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG) (6) and Commissioners of Police (CP) (2).
The AIGs are Mr. Dan’Azumi Doma, Mr. Mamman Tsafe, Mr. David Omojola, Mr. Solomon Arase, Mr. Christopher Katso and Mr. Salihu Hashidu, while Mr. Hilary Opara and Mr. Sotonye Wakama were promoted from the rank of Commissioner of Police, the PSC said in a statement Tuesday.
Their promotions took effect from August 19, 2014, according to the release in Abuja by the PSC Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations, Mr. Ferdinand Ekpe.
The development followed the retirement of all the DIGs that served with the former Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, who retired from service on July 31, 2014.
The PSC in the statement re-affirmed its earlier decision that promotions from the ranks of ACPs to AIGs would only be done after interviews with the affected officers.
The Commission said it had reviewed the time limit within which aggrieved police officers can lodge complaints against punishment meted to them to 30 days from the receipt of the decisions.
