Nigerian Air Force Opens Civil, Military Directorate

BEVERLY HILLS, February 12, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has opened a Directorate of Civil-Military Relations as part of its efforts to strengthen effective relationship with the public and curb abuse by its officers.

According to Air Commodore Afam Chukwu, Head of the new directorate, the department had become necessary with the deployment of the personnel of the service in the ongoing military operation in the North East.

Speaking during his maiden press briefing in Abuja, on Friday, Chukwu disclosed that the new department was part of the efforts of the current leadership of the NAF to promote enhanced professionalism and discipline in all the operations of the service.

He said that the NAF authorities had also set up a public information/complaints desk in the office of the Director, Civil Military Relations in Abuja and has emphasised the need for its commanders to ensure strict adherence to the observation of human rights and humanitarian laws in all operations.

“To further smoothen any outstanding rough edges and enhance the mutual benefits in our relationship with the civil populace, the NAF has set up a public information/complaints desk in the office of the Director, Civil-Military Relations here at the headquarters, Nigerian Air Force, Abuja,” he said.

“I wish to use this medium to inform you that the desk is now open to members of the public who have information, views, complaints and suggestions that could help to improve NAF’s relations and contributions to National Security.”

He averred that the reported incident in which some personnel of the service molested somebody in Lagos would have been reported immediately to the leadership of the service if the new directorate was in existence then.

He urged the members of the media and the populace to give the requisite support to the service in all its operations to the benefit of the country and called on the members of the public with comments and complaints to reach the department on 09095979774 and nafcimic@airforce.mil.ng.
