SAN FRANCISCO, October 25, (THEWILL) – No fewer than 74 Boko Haram gunmen were killed in a fresh raid of a Boko Haram camp in Borno State.
The Nigerian Army, which disclosed this on Friday, said a Boko Haram camp in a Borno village was destroyed by its troops with the assistance of the Nigeria Air Force, during which 74 members of the terrorist group were killed. Two soldiers were however injured in the operation.
A statement by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations of the 7 Division Maiduguri, Lt. Col. Muhammad Dole, issued on Friday, said: “In continuation of the ongoing offensive operation against terrorists, the troops of 7 Division Nigerian Army destroyed another Boko Haram terrorists camp in Galangi and Kawanti villages within Mainok general area of Borno state on Thursday October 24, 2013.”
The statement said the operation, which involved ground and aerial assault with the support of the Nigeria Air Force led to the destruction of the terrorists camp and the killing of 74 terrorists.
Dole said several persons fled the destroyed camp with serious injuries as he disclosed that two Isuzu Tiger Pick Up vehicles and five Hilux Toyota van belonging to the insurgents were destroyed in the raid.
“The General Officer Commanding 7 Division Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Obidah Ethan, appreciates the general public for their resilience and cooperation by providing timely and credible information to security agencies. General Ethan reiterates the commitment of 7 Division to ensuring safety of lives and properties of all citizens within its area of responsibility,” the statement added.
