BEVERLY HILLS, CA, July 21, (THEWILL) – A Nigerian Air Force Mi-35 Helicopter on a training mission Monday afternoon crashed due to technical fault at a location South of Bama, about one hundred miles from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters in a statement on its website said it has established that the crash was not as a “result of any enemy action”, adding that investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances that led to the accident.
Borno, one of the three states currently under emergency rule in northern Nigeria, is the stronghold of the Boko Haram, a terrorist group responsible for several deadly attacks against civilians and the military in the north. Over 15, 000 persons are believed to have been killed in the attacks.
