SAN FRANCISCO, May 17, (THEWILL) – The National Economic Council (NEC) has demanded the refund of N526billion and $21b unpaid by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC) and 16 other revenue generating Agencies including the Nigeria Customs Service and NIMASA.
This was revealed on Thursday by Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State while briefing State House correspondents after a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Dankwambo said the infractions were identified by KPMG who were contracted to carry out a forensic audit of revenue remittances to the Federation Accounts by the agencies.
He stated that NEC adopted the reports of the technical audit by KPMG between 2010 and 2015 and resolved to identify instances of criminal infringements and forward same to the Attorney General of the Federation as well as its Legal Committee for further actions.
Dankwambo said a committee he chaired briefed NEC on the findings and it was resolved that the audit period be extended up to June 2017 adding that some revenue generating agencies such as the NNPC, NPA, Customs and others were found to culpable.
“A sub committee will be set up to look at the details of the infringements. Those that are criminal in nature will be handed over to AGF for action,” he said.
This comes after the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) queried the spending of the NNPC and asked it to clarify its expenses.
