December 05, (THEWILL) — The NNPC/Seplat Joint Venture has said that more than 850 technicians have been trained at its Technical Training Centre (TTC) in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, since its establishment three decades ago.
The milestone was disclosed during the centre’s 30th-anniversary ceremony, which also marked two million incident-free man-hours in offshore operations.
At the event, 49 technicians from the G13 class graduated in Applied Instrumentation and Controls, Electrical Maintenance, Oil and Gas Technology, and Mechanical Maintenance Technology.
Held under the theme “From Roots to Results: Three Decades of Growth,” the ceremony drew industry leaders, government officials, community representatives and families of the graduates.
Seplat Energy CEO, Roger Brown, represented by Chief Operations Officer Samson Ezugworie, said the TTC was founded to build a pipeline of indigenous technicians capable of supporting Nigeria’s industrial and energy sectors.
He said the centre was established on the conviction that developing local talent would enhance operational standards and strengthen the nation’s energy landscape.
Brown noted the TTC’s recognition as the world’s first City & Guilds Centre of Excellence, describing the designation as evidence of its training quality and global reputation.
Addressing the graduates, he said they were entering a competitive industry but had been equipped with the skills and values required for advancement.
General Manager of JV Operations, John Itsueli, recalled the TTC’s early years in a small office at the Qua Iboe Terminal and its expansion into a fully equipped training institution. He commended the staff whose work sustained the programme.
Best graduating student, Goodluck Enimedoukienoniso, acknowledged the support the cohort received and said the graduates were prepared to contribute meaningfully to the workforce.
He said the training had shaped their competence and readiness for field operations.
In his speech, Managing Director of Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited, Oladotun Isiaka, expressed confidence that the new graduates would uphold the centre’s standards as they begin their careers.
