BEVERLY HILLS, December 04, (THEWILL) – Contrary to a news report by Lagos-based Radio Continental that there was a fresh Boko Haram attack on Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, Wednesday, the state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, has stated that there was no truth in the report.
Maintaining that nobody attacked Damaturu on Wednesday, Gaidam said on Thursday that normalcy has since returned to the state capital after Monday’s siege by Boko Haram.
Gaidam, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Press Affairs and Information, Mallam Abdullahi Bego, said: “This report is totally false and unfounded. There was no attack or incident that threatened security in Damaturu on Wednesday.“
According to him, “Following the successful security operation which repelled Boko Haram attacks on Damaturu last Monday, the security situation has steadily improved in the state capital, with residents going about their normal businesses all day Wednesday.
“There were reports that local residents in a village called ‘Garin Itace’ on the Damaturu-Gujba highway had sighted some people thought to be Boko Haram members and this was promptly reported to security agencies who immediately deployed Air Force jets which carried out a successful operation in the area.
“Reports of another attack on the State capital should therefore be totally discountenanced as unfounded.”
However, Governor Gaidam implored residents of the state to remain vigilant and continue to cooperate with the security operatives in the bid to restore peace and security to the state.
