Egypt Football Association board member, Mahmoud El Shamy, has announced that the Pharaohs head coach, Shawky Gharib, will not have his contract renewed.
Gharib has now left his post after failing to lead the Pharaohs to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations following their third place in qualification.
EFA chairman Gamal Allam had assured that Gharib would not remain as the Pharaohs head coach as the FA is looking to sign a foreign coach.
“On Monday we sent a formal letter to Shawky Gharib and his technical staff that we will axe their contracts after 48 hours. We have an item in the contract to notify them 48 hours before ending the relationship,” El Shamy announced.
“We wish them good luck, and we will start a search for a new coach.
“We will not be hasty about the name of the new coach. We will hold a meeting and think about this issue, that’s all I can say now.”
Gharib took charge of the Egyptian national team last year after the EFA relieved former coach Bob Bradley of his duties. Bradley had failed to lead Egypt to the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
