December 09, (THEWILL) – The National Orientation Agency has underscored the urgent need for sustained public awareness to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS and foster understanding of ongoing tax reforms in Nigeria.
Ms. Tessy Nnalue, Director of Orientation and Behaviour Modification at NOA headquarters in Abuja, made this known during a sensitization campaign held in Akwa Ibom State.
The initiative sought to educate residents on HIV prevention, tax compliance, security consciousness, and other critical issues affecting society.
Speaking at the event, which featured a road walk tagged “Road Show and Rally”, Nnalue lamented the seeming complacency toward HIV/AIDS despite its continued prevalence.
She said, “HIV/AIDS remains a reality, but many people are throwing caution to the wind.
“This road show aims to remind the public of the dangers of the virus and the importance of staying safe. Through this sensitization, we hope to promote preventive strategies and encourage residents to undergo regular testing.”
Nnalue further called on individuals and organizations to join hands in creating awareness and ensuring people take proactive measures to protect themselves.
She also emphasized the need for heightened security consciousness among Nigerians, urging them to report suspicious activities to relevant authorities.
The Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of NOA, Mr. Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, highlighted the importance of public education on tax compliance and the federal government’s ongoing tax reform agenda.
“Our goal is to inform the public about the government’s efforts to improve revenue generation without overburdening ordinary citizens with multiple taxes,” he explained.
Mkpoutom also used the opportunity to educate attendees on their fundamental human rights, encouraging them to understand and assert their legal privileges when necessary.
The sensitization campaign reflects NOA’s commitment to addressing critical social issues and empowering citizens with the knowledge needed to navigate contemporary challenges effectively.
