May 20, (THEWILL) – Some distinguished Nigerians will be bestowed with the esteemed Fellowship of the National Institute for Sports (NIS) as part of the events around the 8th convocation ceremony in Lagos.
In a press conference leading up to the event, Professor Olawale Moronkola, the Director-General of the Institute, unveiled the names of the five eminent individuals set to receive this prestigious accolade on Thursday, May 25, 2023.
Among the honorees are Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development; Segun Odegbami, ex-captain of the Green Eagles; Sir Adebunkola Kessington, a notable Business Mogul; Larry Izamoje, Chairman of BrilaFM; and Modupeola Lawale, a prominent businesswoman.
Moronkola highlighted their substantial contributions to the advancement of sports in Nigeria throughout the years. Emphasising the significance of this occasion, the Director-General stated: “This is the first time the Institute is conferring Fellowship on individuals, hence the convocation is remarkable. The Institute believes in setting standards and encouraging overall national development through sports. This Fellowship is being bestowed on these people in line with the tradition in tertiary institutions.”
In addition to the fellowship ceremony, the convocation will witness the issuance of certificates to a record-breaking 530 students from the 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 sets. Moronkola outlined the positive changes implemented in the past two years, including the introduction of inaugural lectures and plans for public and valedictory lectures.
The Institute has also prioritised the creation of a conducive learning environment, equipped with an upgraded library, lecture rooms, and enhanced accommodation facilities. Moreover, construction is underway for new hostels and a lecture theatre, underscoring the Institute’s commitment to progress and global standards.
