SAN FRANCISCO, November 08, (THEWILL) – A group, Civil Coalition for Good Governance – CICOFGOG, Aniocha North Local Government of Delta State, on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction about media reports of last weekend’s explosion at Obomkpa in which, according to the group, Aniocha North was portrayed as a security threat to the state.
Rising from its emergency meeting on Thursday, the group condemned the way the explosion, which the Police and the Speaker Delta State House of Assembly , Hon. Ochei, have insisted was an assassination attempt on the brilliant Speaker’s life, was reported .
“”There is no doubt the news is shocking and disturbing as well, considering the simple and obvious fact that the action is alien to the good citizens of Aniocha North whose record on peaceful co-existence as a culture has remained untainted over the years.
“However, while the incident has continued to generate insinuations, speculations and propaganda among the political leaders in the local government, CICOFGOG as a group, whose aims and objectives borders on working towards the enthronement of good leadership and governance in our societies, wish to use this medium to inform the public that Aniocha North does not constitute security threat to its citizens and the general public as the people of the area are peace loving.
“Meanwhile, we use this opportunity to call on all security agencies operating in the local government area, especially the Police and the State Security Services (SSS), to go extra mile and do everything humanly possible in carrying out thorough investigation on the matter with all honesty and sincerity towards establishing before the entire public the whole truth about what really happened.
“We firmly believe that this is the only way speculations, accusations and buck passing on matter would be laid to rest and at the same time, douse the tension which the news reports have created in Aniocha North and the state in general.
“Aniocha North Local Government is synonymous with peace and peace is desirable for positive development. To achieve peace is indeed the responsibility of all,” the group said in a statement signed by Barrister Elvis Odika.
