August 29, (THEWILL) — The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has conducted a screening and Computer-Based Test (CBT) for 564 senior teachers and zonal secretaries who wish to become principals and vice principals, as part of efforts to strengthen the education sector.
The chairman of the commission, Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu, stated this while addressing participants during the two-day exercise at Baptist Boys High School, Saje, Abeokuta, the state capital.
Sanyaolu explained that the process was to ensure merit-based selection among qualified officers already on Grade Levels 16 and 17, respectively.
He noted that 250 senior staff were shortlisted for the post of principal, while 314 were for the position of vice principal, urging participants to conduct themselves responsibly, stressing that their performance in the exercise would determine their eventual postings.
The chairman divulged that the assessment will test participants’ knowledge of educational policies, school administration, curriculum planning, financial management, and staff supervision.
“TESCOM is not resting on its oars in raising the standard of school leadership. This process will directly impact the quality of teaching and learning, as well as the overall standard of education in Ogun State”, he said.
The State Chairmen, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Comrade Felix Agbesanwa, and the President of the All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Mr Adeniyi Adekoya, commended TESCOM for the transparent process and commitment to raising educational standards.
Some of the participants are Mrs Mosurat Salami of Salau Abiola Comprehensive High School, Osiele, and Mr Kolawole Oluajo, Zonal Secretary, Ipokia Local Government, who expressed delight at being shortlisted, pledging to justify the confidence reposed in them if allowed to serve as school heads.
