BEVERLY HILLS, February 20, (THEWILL) – The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has issued a carefully worded statement that sidestepped answering the question whether she tendered a letter of resignation earlier in the week to President Goodluck Jonathan.

Two sources familiar with the development had told THEWILL that the President rejected her resignation and urged her to carry on as Minister.

The statement by her Special Adviser said the Minister has not resigned.

“It has come to our attention that a story is circulating online about the purported resignation of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this story is not true.

“The Finance Minister is still in place and assures Nigerians that all will be done to ensure that macro-economic stability is maintained through tight fiscal and monetary policies,” the statement said.

THEWILL however stands by its earlier report.
