Good governance is an indeterminate term used in the international development literature to describe how public institutions conduct public affairs and manage public resources.
The concept of “good governance” often emerges as a model to compare ineffective economies or political bodies with viable economies and political bodies.
The concept centers on the responsibility of governments and governing bodies to meet the needs of the masses as opposed to select groups in society.
It is therefore widely regarded as the civic duty of every individual enjoying the very rare privilege of good gorvernance in his State to assist and support the government as a very little token of appreciation.
It is in this regard, some individuals, groups and community leaders in Adamawa State deem it necessary to create a non-political, non-religious and nonprofit making group that will sell and highlight the progressive strides going on in the State under the leadership of Senator Muhammad Umar Jibrilla Bindow – under the umbrella of #TeamBindow.
This group of Adamawa sons and daughters from far and wide which I am not even inclusive, recognised the political will as well as the tenacity of the Bindow administration in bringing infrastructural development and positive change to Adamawa.
So they, therefore, pledged their readiness to support the Bindow’s progressive strides through advocacy, citizens’ mobilization and partnership with women groups, civil societies, students association and international observers without even the governor’s know and go-ahead.
The interesting fact to note about this movement is their funding, unlike the unfair and injust rumours going on about how the government is funding the group, their source of funds is actually coming from small donations and savings by the members and groups across the State.
Like every good thing that comes to the for, #TeamBindow has been saddled with a few condemning stories, the funniest being that the governor initiated the group as a strategy for campaign should the Nyako case ruling be a re-election. That’s very very funny.
This is a group that the governor knew all about just a few days ago, when the elders and management of the group paid a courtesy call on him at Government House, Yola, to share with him information about the formation of the group and ongoing intiatives within their respective subgroups, as well as explore opportunities for synergy, collaboration and enhanced development for Adamawa.
Most States in the country has such a group that serves as a torchlight on the affairs of the government and pulls the government right when the need for such comes up, and such groups gain popularity and recognition in all their States. I wondering why Adamawa’s case is different.
I really don’t know where the group will go from here, but it is paramount to note that politics should be spared from any progressive work that will come to my State. I never gave Bindow a chance coming from a business background, but even the most injust of critics will see that the man has done well for Adamawa and the people of the State.
This is not the time to play the opposition card, or the ‘I want to be a governor too’ card or the ‘I don’t want Bindow’ card. This is the time to come together to make Adamawa a better devoid of political, tribal or religious standing, just like the #TeamBindow delineates.
You don’t have to necessary be in the #TeamBindow to support the good governance in the State. We can all do that in our own small way from prayers (like I do), advocacies to point assistance like #TeamBindow. The choice is ours.
But like I wrote earlier, we can be on the train of support for the greatness going on in Adamawa State, or we can be blinded by mischief and sorts, and continue to form degressive efforts to the history being made by this gift of God governor, again, the choice is ours. Only ours.
