OPINION: AMERICA VOTES IN A RACE THAT INVOLVES THE WORLD

Must Read

In Four days Americans will vote for a new President. The race has  already polarised America. A man that tries to represent the old  establishment pitched against a woman that says the new is better.  Americans are wary of returning to their Historical lows namely, the  great Economic depression of the 1930s and Slavery and inequality. But  again the people are wary of the growing insecurity posed by extreme  religious movements.

How to achieve these aims bring diversity of  opinions. Some think America should just wall off other nations  especially those with opposing values in curbing both insecurity and job  loses. They mourn the declining Christian values. Others feel that  America could no longer stay isolated having achieved the status of  global leader and policeman. This school argue that isolation is not even  feasible in this globalized world with the information age in full  bloom.

That on the contrary isolation would bring back the specter of the  two greatly feared “achievements” of that era namely the great economic  depression and Slavery while lost jobs may not be found.  While the male candidate relies on bravado accusing the female of not  being reliable, the female is subtle and steady, accusing the male of  insensitivity and utter disregard to the female gender.

For those who  are embedded in the feeling that America has taken the wrong direction  democratising too much lately thereby eroding some of the greatness of  old and they see immigration as source of insecurity, they feel that  capitalism had given away too much to the extent that America was  tending towards socialism and they cite the Obama Care that seeks to  give healthcare free of charge. To this camp, such interventions  adversely affect big business that employs more people.

The pro  modernism group point to the place America found itself after the gulf  war and point to the innovations that brought her out of depression as  evidence that Capitalism needed to be moderated for its own survival.  The last school believe that America has never been greater and as open  it is now suggesting that negative internal and external policies would  only damage her global momentum and therefore end up achieving the  unintended. Last minute attempt to muscle things by both sides will not  change the fact that indeed this election is not only for Americans to  decide its out come but that the world may not just be watching but also  voting by other means because they are involved.
