Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, is known not to be a woman who talks much. In other words she is not loquacious. Since her husband, Muhammadu, was elected and sworn in as President on May 29, 2015, Nigerians have for a long time seen a cool headed, calm First Lady who cared less of the power and perks of her office.
She gave Nigerians the picture of a dutiful obedient wife, loyal to a no nonsense retired general who is President of the most populous black nation on earth. All that has given way to a fearless but concerned First lady, a caring mother, hurt by how few individuals are reaping where they did not sow in Buhari’s government.
Before now, Nigerians have read in the media the powerful influence of a powerful cabal that dictate the running of the Buhari government. It was all shrouded in secrecy and existed in the realm of speculations. But last week Aisha decided to dare the odds and spill the beans.
She confirmed our fears, the rumours that Buhari’s government is on a “slow mode” because he is being misdirected by a cabal. Aisha told the BBC Hausa service in London that her husband’s government had been hijacked by a cabal of few individuals. She said those not known to have done anything to elevate her husband to the presidency now call the shots in the P Villa.
With such startling revelations, Nigerians now have an insight why those who formed the All Progressive Congress, APC, the political platform, that catapulted Buhari to power now sit and watch from the sidelines.
Aisha has made us know why the fumbling and wobbling of the Buhari Presidency has continued unhindered. Now we know why those who contributed to ensure Buhari’s victory at the elections now remain on the back seat, while those who did nothing now occupy the front row.
Aisha has truly shown she is a concerned mother disturbed by the fact that those who worked for her hubby to succeed after three failed attempts at the presidency are nowhere close to the government. She is worried that the APC manifesto has been dumped in the trash bin and unpopular policies foisted on the government that has led the nation on the path of perdition. The Change Mantra has become a mere slogan
The wife of the president is not farther from the truth. She spoke the mind of millions of Nigerians, particularly APC supporters across the country that did so much to enthrone the party into power but now left in the lurch and groping in the dark.
Where was the cabal when Buhari struggled thrice to clinch the presidency without success? Where were they when the merger of opposition parties that gave birth to the APC began? Where were they, during the formation stages of the APC?
In the words of Aisha, the cabal foisted Ministers who are not known to the President. She confessed that some of the top officials of the government are not known to her in 27 years she has been wife to the President.
Today, these “few” have succeeded to become the hand of Esau twisting the affairs of a government that is wobbling, fumbling and leading this great nation to its worst economic recession- a non progressive cabal that are loaded with archaic ideas and out of tandem with dynamics of modern governance.
They now want the bigger part of the pie when they did not prepare the dough. They want the pillars of the APC to crumble for their myopic and selfish interests. They have set Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on the path of war with the President using a John Oyegun as a cannon fodder. They have made Buhari see Atiku as an enemy that cannot be trusted despite his massive support that catapulted him to the Presidency.
They branded Olusola Saraki a thieving senator that must be punished because he sought and won the senate presidency. What a cabal that certainly lacks clear understanding of the political dynamics that brought Buhari and the ambassadors of Change to power through popular votes!
Some of us are worried that our dear President failed to pick the humble advice of his virtuous wife or exercise restraint when he was asked to react on his wife’s comments in Berlin. Standing next to the most powerful woman in the world, Angela Merkel, to dismiss her wife’s complaints is highly regrettable. Buhari should be told that women now hold powerful positions in the world and there place is beyond “the kitchen and other rooms”
He should be reminded that a woman is on the verge of becoming President of the United States of America and another woman, Margaret May, is the Prime Minister of Great Britain.
Whether the President was joking or not, as Garba Shehu wanted us to believe the truth is that the First Lady has shown she cannot keep quiet in the comfort of presidential power and see her husband’s reputation squandered by a selfish few. The truth is- the family name of the Buhari’s is at stake and only a concerned wife will speak out when a dark cloud is hovering around her husband.
