OPINION: USING BUHARI AILMENT TO STIR UP ETHNO-RELIGIOUS GENOCIDE

Must Read

There is a piece circulating on the cyberspace titled; “President   Muhammadu Buhari the Strongest man in Africa”. The author of the   drivel alleged albeit tacitly how President Muhammadu Buhari has been   poisoned with a category ‘A poison’. The writer said Buhari may have   been given a full dose of the poison but was too strong to be felled   like former Head of state, Gen. Abacha, and MKO Abiola, acclaimed winner   of the June 12 1993 election.

The curious part of the poisonous piece of junk was inference to the   likes of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Abdulsalam Abubakar as sickly   even in seeming good health. The writer was tacitly alleging that some   powerful Nigerians have attempted to kill the president. In the depraved   words of the writer: “Which other ways does one measure a strength of   a man who is in his mid seventies but still survives a deadliest class   of poison? The poison you gave him has become a vitamin to him and he is   living in vitality and vigor while you the poisoners blood is rising   above survival limit”.

The content of the piece may be the opinion of a deprave person, but the   way and manner it was peddled on social media indicates how very   gullible, vile and beastly some Nigerians are. It also shows how some   people seek to stir up ethno-religious genocide. Some Nigerians are   indeed not happy we live in peace. They seek to destroy our corporate   existence. I watched as social media platforms of people supposed to be   well educated and informed share the unauthoured, puerile, mischievous   piece of junk with impunity. The educated have indeed joined the   bandwagon of hooting fools to become idiots in the rave to wrangle our   corporate entity from its path to peaceful and prosperous nationhood.

The presidency while doing a good job to mend the falling health of the   president must be weary of those using his health issue to provoke civil   unrest. Already all the mischievous divides are at the top of their   antics selling the worst of their best compilations around the   president’s health to further the fragmentation taking a turn for the   worst among Nigerians. The weekly lugubrious announcements of PMB death   got a boost when an apparently deranged British ex-lawmaker announced   the death of the ailing president. Now the narrative of a Buhari been   poisoned is already planted in the heart of simple minded Nigerians,   waiting for the right time for harvest of genocide.

The other side of the divide with secessionist agenda has people trying   to rewrite the history of Nigeria. They have crafted their own history,   believing how gullible some Nigerians are and how shallow most youths   are on knowledge of their country to recreate our story. They have   managed to produce a different meaning to suit their own agenda. The   piece titled “the real Reason Nigerian Schools Dropped History”   presently going viral reflected on how Uthman Danfodio conquered the   North (tacit reference to Fulani herders), how Northern lawmakers wanted   to secede from Nigeria (indicating session agenda started from the   north), and how Gen Yakubu Gowon was selected to mastermind genocide   against Igbos.

Most Nigerians in their forties did not witness the Nigerian civil war,   therefore ordinary knowledge of history has failed to register requisite   knowledge and caution in the minds of mischief makers. Some Nigerians   may have planned economic benefit from civil unrest, others are just on   board on the mischief trip simply because someone has commissioned them   to. The trend is indeed gaining speed as secessionists have taken over   the cyberspace with tacit publications aimed at causing tremendous hurt   on our corporate existence.

It is instructive for media content consumers to avoid becoming   accomplices to the demonic intentions of some cyber based evil merchants   thriving on mass ignorance, endless hate, cleavage based fragmentation   to inflict vicious circle of violence with unfathomable damage on lives   and properties. We must seek that which separates us, we must identify   those trained, equipped and paid to kill Nigeria on social media. We   must understand that many youths in Nigeria are only equipped with the   rewrite of history, issues and not the real deal on our narrative.

We must say no to marginalization by government at the center. It is   time to move the nation out of the woods. Sadly, the change government   has failed to unite the country. When the music changes, ordinarily   dancers are expected to change their dance steps. Perceived and manifest   injustices in appointments, selective war on corruption, itinerancy of   terrorism across the country by herders among sundry others must stop.

The issue of quota system, resource control, restructuring, defining our   federalism must be addressed to achieve balance.

We must all say to ourselves “I have seen the light, now we can see   and no longer need the blind, mischievous to lead us. That I am now   aware today was yesterdays tomorrow and today will be tomorrow’s   yesterday. Yes, the past is gone and the bright light at the end of the   tunnel brings greater hope where peace collective progress, mutual   respect for all Nigerians regardless of ethnicity and religious   consideration is our collective inheritance.” God save Nigeria.
