A minister of health is more like a priest to a nation, their words are source of hope and life, so they are reverend, priest are not known to tell lies so a minister of health.
We all saw the Ebola virus coming, most of us shouted to the heavens for government to take sure measures that will prevent this deadly God forbid virus ravaging some West African countries entering our dear country, since we rank among countries with worst public health service and disease control record in the world.
The punch newspaper also gave an intelligence report that the Office of the National Security Adviser warned the Office of the Minister of Health of the grave implications of the Ebola virus to national security and the need for steps to be taken 10 days before the infamous visit of the Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, to Lagos.
The minister had all the time to put necessary preventive measures in place, so as to arrest and isolate any suspected case of the deadly virus, but did little or nothing as usual, Ebola diseases came into the country without any form of resistance, innocent lives have been exposed to the deadly virus, an ECOWAS aid staff and a Nigerian nurse have lost their life to the carelessness of this minister.
Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu the minister of health however during the briefing on the outbreak of the Ebola Virus lied and I quote him ” Mr Sawyer was flagged at the point of disembarkation in Lagos. He was then accordingly quarantined and transferred to a hospital in Lagos, straight from the airport”
How can the minister tell this shameful lie that it was the system put in place that flagged the demon called Sawyer sent from Liberia to kill Nigerians who’s government preventive measures existed on pages of newspapers.
If indeed this man was flagged and quarantined by the system how come we are having the whole medical staff of that hospital quarantined, why was he not taken to a government hospital with an isolated ward and managed by well protected health officials, and why are we having over a hundred persons under surveillance from that single incident?
Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu should tell us the bitter truth, the virus caught us not prepared as usual and our fire brigade emergency attitude is now being activated to stem the tide of the deadly virus. This would have been a better speech than dishing lies to the country.
Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu is only answering the name Minister of Health and enjoying the benefits attached to the office and not the responsibility, the state of Nigeria health system is worst than ever, physicians and other health professional are alternating industrial action since he assumed office. He has failed to restore normalcy to the sector as directed by Mr President.
The Minister of health like his counter part of Ministry of Interior Aba Moro will never tender his resignation letter but fabricating lies to cover his mess. Two lives have been lost, about ten others infected with the deadly Ebola disease, due to his negligence, The normal thing to do in a civilize society is resignation.
