March 06, (THEWILL) — Turkish club, Galatasaray, have confirmed that Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen’s contract contains no release clause, shutting down speculation over a potential departure for one of African football’s most prolific strikers.
The 27-year-old initially arrived at the Istanbul club on a temporary basis before Galatasaray made his move from Napoli permanent last summer for a fee of €75 million. His contract ties him to the club until June 2029.
Osimhen has been in exceptional form throughout his time in Turkey, netting 54 goals in 66 appearances. In the UEFA Champions League this season alone, the Nigerian forward has contributed to nine goals across eight fixtures, with seven scored and two created. Juventus, a club he faced in the competition’s play-off round, are among those reported to have registered interest.
Club president, Dursun Ozbek, moved swiftly to put an end to the transfer talk, telling Turkish publication, Fanatik: “There is no release clause in Osimhen’s contract. He is an extremely successful footballer who will serve Galatasaray for many years.”
Ozbek also offered a pointed reassessment of the transfer fee, stating: “Perhaps the amount was considered high on the day we signed him, but today the prevailing view in football circles is that the transfer fee was low and the player’s value is much higher.”
