August 30, (THEWILL) — Galatasaray continued their perfect start to the Turkish Super League season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Çaykur Rizespor at RAMS Park in the fourth week of competition. The Istanbul giants maintained their winning streak through goals from Davinson Sanchez in the 20th minute, Victor Osimhen in the 65th minute, and Mauro Icardi during second-half stoppage time.
The opening goal proved particularly significant beyond the scoreline, with Sanchez’s strike marking Galatasaray’s 4000th goal in Super League history. This milestone came during a dominant first-half performance that saw the hosts control proceedings against their visiting opponents from the Black Sea region.
Video Assistant Referee technology played a crucial role in shaping the contest, with Rizespor denied twice by VAR interventions. Both disallowed goals came from Qazim Laçi, with the striker seeing efforts in the 35th and 44th minutes ruled out for offside violations that were only detected through video review.
Osimhen continued his impressive scoring, netting his second goal in consecutive league starts since joining the club on a permanent basis. Dal Varesanovic provided Rizespor’s consolation goal in the 73rd minute, which also represented their first league goal of the current campaign and ended Galatasaray’s clean sheet record this season.
The result leaves Galatasaray with a perfect record of 12 points from four matches, while Rizespor remains near the bottom of the table with just one point from three games played. Galatasaray will travel to face Eyüpspor in their next fixture, whilst Rizespor return home to host Gençlerbirliği in week five.
