Palace, Brighton Play Out 0-0 Draw In EPL Clash

palace vs brighton

November 09, (THEWILL) — Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion failed to break the deadlock in a goalless English Premier League encounter at Selhurst Park on Sunday. Both sides spurned several chances to claim victory in the derby fixture, with Marc Guehi absent from the Eagles lineup.

Jean-Philippe Mateta sent an early effort over the bar for Palace, whilst Ismaila Sarr had a shot from distance kept out by Bart Verbruggen.

Brighton responded through Maxence Lacroix, who got a crucial touch on a Mats Wieffer delivery, before Dean Henderson denied Diego Gomez with a fine save.

Yankuba Minteh squandered the best opportunity of the opening period, side-footing wide after being played through by Gomez just before the interval.

The second half brought further drama when referee Tim Robinson initially pointed to the spot after Georginio Rutter went down under a challenge from Jaydee Canvot.

Robinson consulted the pitchside monitor and reversed his decision, instead booking the Brighton forward for simulation after determining he had initiated the contact.

Palace continued to press for a winner, with Kamada firing into the side-netting following skilful footwork inside the area.

Yeremy Pino came closest to snatching all three points deep into stoppage time, but Verbruggen produced a strong low save to preserve the stalemate.

Neither team could find the breakthrough despite numerous chances, leaving both sides to settle for a share of the spoils in front of the Selhurst Park crowd.
