April 10, (THEWILL) — Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace produced a dominant UEFA Europa Conference League first-leg performance at Selhurst Park on Thursday, beating Fiorentina 3-0 to take a strong advantage into the second leg.
Palace were lively from the off, with Jean-Philippe Mateta and Evann Guessand both firing wide from Daniel Munoz crosses in the opening exchanges. The breakthrough arrived in the 24th minute when Mateta stepped up to the penalty spot after Guessand was brought down by Dodo inside the box, and sent his effort straight through the centre of the goal.
Tyrick Mitchell doubled the lead just seven minutes later, his left-footed strike travelling across the face of goal before settling in the bottom right corner to put Palace firmly in control before the interval.
Daichi Kamada went close to extending the advantage, while Dean Henderson was called upon to deny Albert Gudmundsson’s precise header at the other end. Both Mateta and Ismaila Sarr sent headers off target with Fiorentina offering little in response.
Sarr eventually got on the scoresheet in the final seconds, powerfully converting Kamada’s cross into the top right corner to round off a comprehensive victory and leave Palace well placed for the return fixture.
