January 20, (THEWILL) — Paystack has announced The Stack Group as its new parent holding company, following the acquisition of a microfinance bank (MFB) licence, marking a significant step in the fintech firm’s expansion beyond payments.
The new structure places Paystack’s core payments business alongside regulated financial services under The Stack Group, allowing the company to broaden its offerings while meeting evolving regulatory requirements.
The move reflects a growing trend among fintechs to adopt holding company models as they scale into credit, savings, and other financial services.
With the MFB licence, the group gains the ability to offer deposit-taking and other bank-linked services, subject to regulatory guidelines.
Industry observers note that the licence provides greater flexibility in product development, particularly for small businesses and underserved segments that rely heavily on digital payment platforms.
Paystack said the restructuring does not change its existing services but strengthens its long-term strategy to build a more comprehensive financial ecosystem.
The payments arm will continue operating under the Paystack brand, while The Stack Group oversees governance, compliance, and future subsidiaries.
The development underscores the increasing convergence between fintechs and traditional banking, as regulatory clarity pushes digital players to deepen
