January 20, (THEWILL) — Zootopia 2 has become Hollywood’s highest-grossing animated film, earning about $1.7 billion worldwide.
The Walt Disney Animation Studios sequel has overtaken Inside Out 2, which previously held the record with $1.69 billion after its 2024 release.
With this achievement, Zootopia 2 has entered the top 10 highest-grossing films in global box office history, joining major blockbusters such as Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, Avengers: Endgame, Titanic and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Reacting to the milestone, Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman attributed the film’s success to strong audience support and the work of its creative team.
“This milestone belongs first and foremost to the fans around the world whose enthusiasm made it possible. We’re incredibly proud of our filmmakers… Zootopia 2 is an extraordinary achievement, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life.” he said
Released in November 2025, Zootopia 2 is the sequel to Disney’s 2016 hit Zootopia.
The film reunites Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) as they investigate a new case involving a reptilian character, Gary De’Snake (voiced by Ke Huy Quan).
The movie also recorded one of the biggest opening weekends ever for an animated film and became the fastest Hollywood animated title to reach $1 billion globally.
Despite its Hollywood record, Zootopia 2 is not the highest-grossing animated film overall. That title remains with China’s Ne Zha 2, which earned over $2.2 billion, largely from its strong performance in China.
