July 15, (THEWILL) — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), under the aegis of the Obidient Movement, have engaged in a war of words over allegations of hijacking a coalition structure in Ebonyi State.
The Labour Party had earlier accused the Ebonyi chapter of the PDP of being a “fractured and fragmented” party known for what it described as politics of acrimony and noise-making.
The statement was jointly signed by Comrade Splendour Oko Eze, LP’s 2023 National Assembly candidate and member of the National Advisory Committee of the Obidient Movement, and Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, the party’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Ebonyi and also a member of the movement’s advisory body.
In a swift rebuttal, the PDP in Ebonyi dismissed both the accusation and the relevance of the Labour Party in the state.
The opposition party described the LP’s statement as “empty and undeserving of any serious attention.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday by Hon. Richard Nwafor, Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ebonyi, the party refuted the claims that it was divided, insisting that the PDP remained united and focused.
“The press release was empty and does not warrant the attention of a serious political party like the PDP,” Nwafor said.
He added, “Labour Party does not exist in Ebonyi State. That statement was signed by faceless individuals without any political weight or relevance.”
He added, “For the record, we have no LP in Ebonyi since Julius Abure and his co-travellers sent the internet organization into political oblivion.”
Nwafor further urged the people of Ebonyi not to be distracted by what he described as “drowning individuals” whose political aspirations had already been derailed by the “dubious members” of their national working committee under the “failed leadership” of Julius Abure.
The political spat has further deepened the rivalry between both opposition parties in the state ahead of possible future coalition talks.
