January 06, (THEWILL) — The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), held a closed-door meeting on Tuesday with former President, Goodluck Jonathan, to deliberate on pressing party and national issues.
Turaki arrived at Jonathan’s office in Maitama, Abuja, at about 5:45 p.m., accompanied by members of the NWC and a few selected state chairmen. The delegation was conveyed in about six Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs).
Although details of the meeting were not immediately disclosed, reliable party sources indicated that the engagement aimed to address the lingering crisis within the PDP and ongoing efforts by the party leadership to reposition it ahead of future political engagements.
Speaking with THEWILL, one of the sources disclosed that the PDP leadership briefed the former president on developments within the party, including reconciliation efforts and strategies to restore internal cohesion amid recent defections and leadership disputes.
Jonathan, a former leader of the party, is believed to remain an influential voice within the PDP, and the meeting is seen as part of wider consultations by the NWC to stabilise the party and strengthen its structures nationwide.
Discussions were also said to have touched on key national issues, reflecting the PDP’s role as the main opposition party and its responsibility to contribute to national discourse.
