BEVERLY HILLS, November 09, (THEWILL) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the weekend, announced the indefinite suspension of the Cross River State Local Government Congresses earlier scheduled for November 8, 2014, as a result of a court injunction stopping the conduct of the congresses.
In a terse press briefing at the Transcorp Hotels, Calabar, a member of the Electoral Committee, Honourable Manasseh Abu, who also cited security concerns, said “on behalf of the National Secretariat of the PDP, the local government congresses were postponement indefinitely.”
Addressing thousands of angry party faithful, who thronged the venue of the press briefing, Abu who was flanked by the state party Chairman, Ntufam John Okon and other state party executive members said: “I came here this evening to address you over the scheduled National Delegate elections that would have held today. I stand before you to announce that the elections are hereby postponed. This is consequent upon a court injunction that we have received as we came in today.”
The order that forced the suspension was made by a Cross River State High Court.
Abu said, “The materials for the said exercise will be deposited with the state police headquarters here in Calabar, awaiting further directive from our National Secretariat.” He thereafter presented a copy of the order of the court saying: “As a peace loving party and one which upholds the virtues of peace, we have to respect the court order in other to avoid the breakdown of peace which Cross River State is widely known for. On this note, on behalf of the National Secretariat of our great party, I implore every one of us to remain peaceful, gentle and go about your normal business with all sense of tranquility.”
