SAN FRANCISCO, November 02, (THEWILL) – Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State said on Saturday that the 16-year rule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has retarded the development of Nigeria and the realisation of her dreams, predicting that the party would soon collapse like a pack of cards.

“The PDP is now on the verge of collapse. It is losing its grip as manifested in the loss of many of its supporters nationwide,” the governor said in Damaturu, the Yobe capital.

Gaidam stated this at a ceremony where All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders endorsed him for a second term as APC sole candidate in the 2015 election.

According to the governor, “Here in Yobe State, we have received thousands of former PDP supporters into the fold of the APC.

“Today, we are receiving yet another high profile group which has decided to leave the PDP for APC. I welcome those who have joined us today and assure them of a level playing field. Those joining us today and in the days to come would not suffer any disadvantage in their aspirations to run for elective positions in their new party.”

He however called on the party faithful to work hard to ensure that the PDP is booted out and allow Nigerians to take the “destiny of our nation in our hands.”

Maintaining that the wind of change is fast blowing, he said “let all those who have not come to terms with reality do so.”

According to him, “Nigerians are yearning for change, they are fed up with the politics of deceit, falsehood and empty promises by the PDP.

“We must bring the desired change that will ensure total emancipation of the masses from corrupt tendencies, deprivation, ignorance, insecurity and poverty, among others.

“This is imperative, if Nigeria is to take its rightful position among the comity of nations and become a vibrant and prosperous economy.”

The Yobe State governor said the need to achieve this was the reason for the movement of governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives and other high profile politicians across the country defecting from the PDP to the APC.
