March 05, (THEWILL) — Chelsea produced a dominant second-half display at Villa Park on Thursday, defeating Aston Villa 4-1 to end a three-match winless streak. Brazilian forward, Joao Pedro, was the central figure, completing a hat-trick and contributing an assist for Cole Palmer’s strike.
Aston Villa drew first blood inside two minutes. Leon Bailey’s low cross was dummied by Ollie Watkins, leaving Douglas Luiz to flick the ball past Filip Jorgensen, the goalkeeper having replaced Robert Sanchez between the posts for the fixture.
Chelsea grew in confidence and levelled through Joao Pedro in the 35th minute, converting after Malo Gusto drove the ball across the six-yard box. The visitors completed the turnaround in first-half stoppage time, with Enzo Fernandez releasing Joao Pedro to lift the ball over Emiliano Martinez. A Watkins effort had been ruled out for offside following a VAR review in between.
The match was put beyond doubt shortly after the interval. A clearance from Martinez ricocheted off Joao Pedro and fell to Palmer, who drilled home from the edge of the area. Nine minutes later, Palmer split the Villa defence with a through ball, allowing Alejandro Garnacho to square for Joao Pedro to complete his hat-trick.
Garnacho threatened a fifth goal before the final whistle, while substitute Tammy Abraham saw a looping header clip the crossbar at the other end. Chelsea departed Villa Park with a convincing victory and renewed momentum.
