Pep Guardiola insists “the aim is always to win trophies” after criticism his work at Bayern Munich will be incomplete without a Champions League title.
Bayern reached their fifth-straight Champions League semi-final with a 3-2 aggregate win over Benfica on Wednesday.
Guardiola, who is set to take over at Man City this summer, has failed to add to Bayern’s five European Cups, but believes his club are now in a strong position to reach a first final since 2013.
“We’re satisfied because the Champions League is a very tough competition,” said Guardiola, who has now reached the semi-finals in all seven of his campaigns as a coach.
“We’ve achieved our objective and now we want to get to the final.
“From what I read in Germany it would seem that if I leave without winning the Champions League my work will have been incomplete.
“But for us, the coaches, the aim is always to win trophies.”
