November 02, (THEWILL) — Wolverhampton Wanderers have dismissed head coach, Vitor Pereira, following Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Fulham. The result left Wolves at the bottom of the English Premier League table without a victory from their opening 10 fixtures this season.
The 57-year-old Portuguese manager, who described the Fulham loss as his side’s worst performance under his leadership, had signed a new contract in September running until 2028. This extension came despite the club recording five consecutive losses at the start of the campaign, marking their poorest opening to a league season in history. Wolves have collected just two points from 10 matches and exited the Carabao Cup following a 4-3 defeat to Chelsea on Wednesday.
Pereira succeeded Gary O’Neil in December 2024 when Wolves sat 19th with only six points from 19 games. He earned the club’s top-flight status with 10 victories from the remaining 22 fixtures, guiding them to a 16th-place finish. A six-match winning sequence in April offered hope for the current campaign.
However, Wolves have not won any of their subsequent 14 league matches, a dismal stretch that includes 11 losses. Supporters chanted for his dismissal during the recent home defeat to Burnley, an incident that appeared to prompt a confrontation between Pereira and fans. The same chants were heard again at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
The summer window saw influential players, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha leave for Manchester City and Manchester United, respectively, whilst seven new signings arrived. Pereira had defended his work after the Burnley match, saying supporters sang his name two months earlier because of last season’s efforts in maintaining their top flight status.
