July 28, (THEWILL) – Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has selected retired Super Eagles midfield icon, John Mikel Obi, to serve as the Honorary Adviser on Sports.

The governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr Gyang Bere, unveiled this appointment as part of a recent series of announcements on Thursday, in Jos. Mutfwang hailed Obi’s appointment as a significant move to strengthen the state’s sporting endeavours and revive a foundation of excellence in the region. The addition of the football superstar to the administration brings a touch of star power, furthering the governor’s mission.

Before receiving this prestigious honour, Obi had been savouring his retirement from active football. Born in Jos, Plateau State’s capital city, he embarked on his illustrious career with the local club, Plateau United, before garnering international attention and making a contentious move to the English Premier League club, Chelsea, in 2006.
